Hey all,

Here, finally, are some pics of my cottage weekend in Ontario. Just wanted to share with you some of the brilliant colours Canada produces in early fall... and it is fall because so many leaves can and do! My cottage is the one to the far left...

Miss you all so much!

wow, it's beautiful Lisa. The Edinburgh weather can't decide what to do - Saturday was midsummer again but this morning is more like deepest winter...

I don't know how to post a new message, but there are a few things I want to document for posterity: the three ways in which my Edinburgh "friends" tried to inflict major head-injuries on me this weekend.

First, during a pleasant game of frisbee, a mis-throw went between Chris Morris and I. Politely standing back to allow him to make the catch, I felt the full force of his wrath as he punched me hard in the face, again and again, laughing like a blood-crazed maniac.

Second, upon leaving after a friendly round of Scrabble, Nicky (neighbour of C, L, E & M, potential paramour of the Morris), spun around and threw a razor-sharp baking tin at breathtaking force at my head.

Thinking that my punishment was complete, I crouched to check the progress of the baking cheesecake through the oven door, whereupon I was knocked to the floor by a veritable avalanche of molten potato of terrifying temperature (a Weapon, indeed, of Mash Destruction). The culprit? - a reckless Irish Buffoon.

Whilst I do have a lot of sympathy for the estimable Mr Roberts I must say that I have possibly never seen anything as funny as the mashed potato incident in my entire life. The righteous indignation that followed did add to the amusement, I must say. It was so funny I was actually crying with laughter!

Sorry Tom, but it it was pretty funny.

some would say that no man but a fool can position himself directly beneath a cauldron full to the brim of volatile, steaming-hot potatoes in mid-mash, and not expect to be showered occasionally with some of its contents
